A basic recipe to which you can add your own choice of fresh herbs. Use in soups and rich stews.

223 people made this

IngredientsServes: 5

  • 225g (8 oz) plain flour
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons water

MethodPrep:30min ›Cook:20min ›Ready in:50min

  1. Mix together flour and salt. Cut butter into mixture using a pastry blender, fork or two knives. Stir in water to form a soft dough.
  2. On a floured surface, roll out dough very thin with a rolling pin. Cut into 2cm (1 in) wide strips (I use a pizza cutter, but a sharp knife works also). Tear 2cm (1 in) long pieces of dough from these strips and drop into simmering chicken stock.
  3. Cook 10 minutes with the pot lid off, then 10 minutes more with the lid on. Serve plain with the stock you've simmered the dumplings in, or add to your favourite stew or soup recipe.

Altered ingredient amounts.Loved these!! The recipe is great, although I found that I needed more water in order to get the dough to 'hold' together. I also added some pepper and my family loved them.-18 Jul 2008

Celebrate the New Year With Classic Chinese Dumplings

Today, billions of Chinese people worldwide are ringing in the year of the rabbit by spending time at the table with their friends and family. But that's where a lot of the similarity ends each region of China and ethnic Chinese groups have their own cultural traditions associated with the celebration.

For some, it's eating both the land and the sea for many, especially those near the coast, it's absolutely imperative to consume copious amounts of fragrant fish.

In starch-heavy Northern Chinese cuisine, the Lunar New Year wouldn't be complete without shui jiao, or boiled dumplings, which signify wealth and prosperity because of their resemblance to ancient Chinese currency. Savor them simply with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce and a drizzle of chili oil. Enjoy abundance in the coming year with this recipe.

Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken and dumplings might be one of the most quintessential comfort foods ever. It's like a warm blanket of thick rich chicken stew with a pillow of dumpling in every bowl. What could be more comforting than a blanket and a pillow?

Most people think of chicken and dumplings as a comfort food from the southern United States, but I grew up in Canada with chicken and dumplings made by my British mother. What I was eating in my childhood was probably different, however, to what is commonly enjoyed in the South and that difference probably comes down to the type of dumplings. Chicken and dumplings in the South usually has a rolled dumpling that is similar to a flat noodle.

My mother’s dumplings, on the other hand, were big tender dollops of dough dropped on top of the rich stew and then steamed. Because I grew up on chicken with dropped dumplings, of course that is what I gravitate towards when I make chicken and dumplings as an adult (although I won’t turn down a bowl of the rolled dumpling variety!).

As with any food that is enjoyed by so many, there are just as many ways to make this delicious meal as there are cooks who make it. Some start from scratch with a whole raw chicken, making the broth using that chicken and then pulling the meat from the bones to add to the stew. This version takes a little shortcut and calls for a rotisserie chicken (or roast chicken).

This not only saves you time, but gives you chicken pieces that are full of flavor, rather than chicken that has given all its flavor to the broth it is sitting in. Of course, you do have to accompany this great chicken with equally great chicken stock, so make your own chicken stock or bone broth or use a brand that you believe in, that has a nice dark color and great flavor.

There are also shortcuts that you can take when you make the dumplings. Bisquick is a commonly used mix for dumplings and produces quite satisfying results. However, it’s really so easy to make the dumplings from scratch with flour, baking powder and salt, so why not make them on your own? You can also flavor your dumplings by adding fresh herbs. This recipe uses chives, but any fresh herb that you like would be delicious. I sometimes throw a little lemon zest into the mix as well, which really brightens the flavor of the dumplings and might just brighten the cold winter day too.

Homemade dumplings recipe, Kung fu Panda Dumplings Recipe

My son is a great fan of Master Po ( me too ) and ever since we saw Kung fu Panda 3, we have been contemplating everyday to recreate “Master Po” style dumplings. The round ones. So we decided to make dragon warrior inspired chicken dumplings from scratch. After a couple of failed messy attempts, we managed to get pretty decent ones. As good as the ones at Mr. Pings Noodle shop if we say so ourselves. Please bear with our dumpling pleating skills. We are as messy as Po in that area.

I think Kung fu Panda is one of the awesome-est animated films of the recent years. The clumsy, childish panda becoming the dragon warrior is a brilliant story that stays for a long time. One of my favorite lines from the kung fu panda series is the one about the secret ingredient of the noodle soup.
Mr. Ping – “Po, I think it’s time I told you something I should have told you a long time ago! The secret ingredient of my secret ingredient soup is, ah ah The secret ingredient is……… NOTHING.”
Po – “Huh ?”
Mr. Ping – “You heard me. Nothing! There is no secret ingredient!”
Po – “Wait, wait, it’s just plain old Noodle Soup? You don’t add some kind of special sauce or something?”
Mr. Ping – “Don’t have to! To make something special, you just have to believe it’s special.”

So, presenting to you Dragon Warrior inspired chicken dumplings.

First we tackle the dumpling wrapper. We will make dough from scratch.

Take a bowl and add in the flour, salt and a teaspoon of oil. Add in the hot water and mix well. Add a little more water if the dough is very dry or a little more flour if its too wet. Knead the dough for 3-4 minutes until soft and pliable (similar to chapati dough consistency). Apply half a teaspoon of oil on the dough so the dough does not dry out. Store the dough to rest over night in the refrigerator. Well rested dough is easier to work when making dumplings. Remove the dough couple of hours before from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before rolling.

In the mean time, make the filling. Here is the recipe for the filling.
Add in the ground chicken (just pulse the boneless chicken several times in the mixie), finely chopped spring onions, coriander leaves, finely minced ginger, finely minced green chillies, soy sauce, little pinch of salt and one egg. Mix well until its combined. Use your hands to mix well. The filling is ready!

Lets finish our wrapper business!
Dust the work surface with flour and roll the dough into thin sheets. Cut small rounds from them. Set aside the rounds. Cover the wrappers with parchment or cling wrap so the wrappers don’t stick with one another. Repeat until all the dough has been cut out.

Its filling time. Now get your kitchen counter ready!
Get the dumpling wrappers and the filling. Place 1 tablespoon of filling on each dumpling wrapper. Don’t stuff them with filling. It gets really messy if over filled and it will be hard to pleat the dumplings. Gently gather the edges to the middle in pleats. Watch this video on how to wrap dumplings. Repeat with all the wrappers and the filling. Enjoy it with your kids. The aim is not perfect pleating. The aim is to have fun!
Just boil 2 inches of water in a kettle and keep the steamer on top. Steam the dumplings on a cabbage lined steamer for 12 minutes. Idli cooker works perfectly too.

Serve hot with a dash of soy sauce for dipping. Ever since we moved to Hong Kong, Vedant has been trying hard to get the art of eating with chopsticks. I can say that he has come close.

you want fast bisquick dumplins? lol use the biscut packages you buy individually, they are 2 cups pre can get them in various flavors, and all you do is change the 2/3 cup of milk to water. been using them a year everyone loves them

That's a good idea, thank you.

These are the dumplings I grew up with. Now, my grandchildren eat them, They are the best. This recipe also works as the cobbler top for berry cobblers

I have used this recipe for 20+ years in stew and chicken and dumplings. This is how I vary it.
quarter 2 Tbls butter
1/4-1/2 sea salt
1 tsp parsley
mix dumpling recipe and add the above items and let set for about 10 minutes.

What do you mean by set? Do you mean let them rest for ten minutes before dropping into the stew?

Same here! I couldn't believe they took it off the box!!

For the gluten free version of bisquick, you need more milk - maybe a cup to 1.25 cups. It's great by the way. So happy it exists.

I am amazed when people think that dough balls are dumplings! Bisquick makes wonderful, fluffy dumplings that my husband and kids love. It also makes a lovely shortcake to serve with strawberries!

They are dumplings and not dough balls. The dough cooks in the stock. It's like a cooked biscuit on the inside.

A few years ago I started adding a couple of stalks of celery to my chicken and dumplings. It adds a little flavor and color.

I add carrots and celery, and I drop the dough directly on the boiling liquids-been making these for 40 years-- no problems--comes out perfectly.

I have added it to the liquid for decades. It helps to make your broth thicker. I also add a couple of teaspoons of Italian seasonings to the dumpling mix. It adds a nice change, and great flavoring to your meal.

I have cooked my chicken and kept the broth do I just bring broth to boil and drop in the dumplings mix into the chicken and broth ,how long does it take for dumpling ro for d one.

I wish I had some cellery today

I add parsley stalks as well.

I add parsley stalks as well.

I love bisquick went to make some dumplings no recipe on the box?? what happened. anyway looked on here I got it. Thanks again. been with bisquick a long time.. :)

Just remember 2 c b/ 2/3milk. I like to use a small scoop Like 1 for one cream.I got mine at pampered chef.

When my children were small and not liking many veggies, I shred zucchini into batter and used a little more mix until consistency looked right. They loved it !

In seventh grade in home economics class our spelling word was biscuit. I spelled it Bisquick. I got it wrong. I still use Bisquick and will never get it wrong by using it. I am 64 years young.

I love that. Thanks for sharing

I love your comment. You rock!

Lol!! That's so cute! I've always loved these and they are the only genetically modified thing I will allow in my house. As long as I don't get some disease I will continue to use it once in awhile. It's truly not good for our organs and immune system. But I like how fluffy the dumplings are. Adding organic garlic helps me to think I've made them a little healthier, LOL!

Put the DUMPLING RECIPE Back on the box. Its the best. Then explain how one can take a can of broth, soup etc. Great for working moms quick and sooooooo easy. Mom feels like she put an effort and the THE LOVE. and its so good .

Yes please! Do it for our kids and grandkids!

Yes I agree, put it back on the box. Was just about ready to buy a off brand because they had a dumpling recipe on their box, but I know better bisquick is the best.

Yes, put that dumpling recipe back on the box. the younger generations will. not know about it! This MUST be handed down

That recipe on your box is an American tradition , I never would have learned to make dumplings without it. We didn't all have mothers to teach us or time to cook from scratch. And some don't have computers.

Haha it's so hard to mix stuff together

Even though I don't like the fast soups I love the dumplings so I will make it using a can soup just so I can eat the dumplings LOL

Put the DUMPLING RECIPE Back on the box. Its the best. Then explain how one can take a can of broth, soup etc. Great for working moms quick and sooooooo easy. Mom feels like she put an effort and the THE LOVE. and its so good .

I cooked frozen Chicken Breast to day ,, so,, how am I going to fix them -- well, I thought Dumplings. but-- Im out of Flour !! but , guess what !! Hear your customers, the ones that keep you in business Hello. Put the DUMPLING RECIPE Back on the box! It doesn't take up that much space.

I usually cut the receipts off boxes, my cook book is full of them but I haven’t bought Bisquick for years. Thank God for the internet

Put the dumpling recipe back on the box. Lost w/o it.

Columbia Falls, MT

Please put the recipe back on the box. Thank you. Maureen in Pennsylvania,USA

this same recipe IS on the side of box.

Not on my box. I am looking at it. They have pancakes and waffles on back which both contain eggs but nothing on the side but the web site. That is planned so people will go to their web site. Unfortunate so many elderly people are left off the scene in the web greed for money.

I doubt if the recipe for dumplings will go back on the box. it has been off for years. It will be forgotten.

Put the receipe back on the box .

I guess they don't care what the customer feels. we want the dumpling receipe back on box.

Oh for heaven sakes, the only difference between a Biscuit & a Dumpling is one is baked the other is steamed. Same recipe.

Sure glad I have a computer. If not I would have been in big trouble. Guess I would have been out tomorrow and buying it. But what about the people who dont have a pc. Think about it, put it back on the box and REMEMBER WITHOUT US sales would drop.

same here , I had to get on the Bisquick site !

Why was dumpling recipe taken off the box? Really dumb! It takes up so little space & is such a cornerstone of Bisquick. What was deemed more important? Fire that fool!

I cannot believe the recipe isn't on the box any longer! Bisquick/Betty Crocker has lost its mind.

Need the recipe back on the box please

What do you mean "do not drop directly on liquid"? The meat and veggies sink to the bottom. What other way do you suggest to place the dumpling?
[email protected]

I love how nobody is answering this question. . please! Someone explain.

You drop them in lightly to simmering soup with tablespoon they will float to top then it's 10 min uncovered and 10 min covered.when they swell up it generally covers whole top of like a 8 quart kettle (ya know the size that like comes in sets with handles ) hope this helps :0)

I grew up with bisquick but my husband likes those flat premade dumplings so we compromised. I use bisquick and just roll it out and cut it in strips. Tadaa. Still fluffy and it makes a thicker broth those premade chewy strips never could. Now its my favorite. Belinda, Florida

So you use minimal flour to roll them out correct? This is exactly what i was looking for. Thanks bunches for posting.

I roll out the dough for my dumplins,. . .they are chewy & more like a fluffy noodle. I have chicken broth, pieces of chicken, carrots, celery & green peas. Sometimes, I quarter potatoes & cook them in the broth. So good too. I drop the dumpling into the broth to cook.

So what measurements do you use when you do it this way. Is it the sam 2 c. of bisquick to 2/3 milk?

That's exactly how my great aunt made them my entire life. That's how I make them now. Best ever! I wouldn't like them any other way! My family wouldn't even call them dumplings if they weren't made with Bisquick and rolled out thin. real thin. lol

Same here fluffy verses flat

Connie - United States

Put the recipe back on the box. PLEASE! Fortunately I have a computer or there would be no dumplings tonight.

This is a Southern style of making Chicken & Dumplings. Roll them out with flour, dredging them in the flour & cut them in long fairly thin pieces.

i just bought another box today, and searched the other boxes in the store, no recipe. so glad i found it here.

dumpling recipe needs to be back on the box please.

Nearly cried when I did not find the recipe on any of the boxes. Thanks to having a computer.

Yes! Need the dumplings recipe back on the box!! Please

I agree! Just tried to remember the recipe from the box, decided to use the biscuit recipe instead. Dumplings sunk to the
bottom of the pot like rocks. Please put it back on the

I just bought a box yesterday, it is on the box.

I bought a box today no dumplings. I agree what happens to people that don't have Internet!

My box didn't have the recipe for dumplings ?? I had to go online to find it,,I've never used bisquick before and it would be pnice to have it on the box !!

I say make the bisquick, bulk and packaged in a baggie yourself in any flavor. Like garlic cheese. Keep the poisons off your table and out of your children.

What do you mean poison? 26u

Bisquick dumplings are the BEST. Just say NO to flat dumplings!

Do you change recipe for rolled out dumplings?

Um. not sure what boxes everyone is buying all the boxes I was looking at had the recipe on the side at the bottom.

jPut the dumpling reciepe back on the box please.

Yes, put the recipe back on the box.

HAPPY I found the Dumpling recipe on Google--I put it in my Phone Memo for the future :)

Shocked, no recipe on the box. thank god I found it on the comp.
My neighbor gave me the box and now wants a dumpling.

Why do my dumplings end up being deavy and doughy in the middle, I must be doing something wrong. Help

broth / gravy needs to be boiling, you need to cook it uncovered then covered.

And thank you for having htis

I followed the recipe and cooking instructions to the letter, but sometimes my dumplings are not fluffy. Why?

Dumplings like biscuits, suffer from over-mixing. If they come out chewy or dense, gluten has been over developed. This is great for bread, but not for light and fluffy. Suggestion: Mix by hand, gently (spoon), rest the dough at room temp. 'till you see some rise and never use a wisk.

How much milk for the entire box 20 oz. for dumplings?

Kindly put directions for preparing dumplings on box. I use 1/2 milk and 1/2 broth from seasoned chicken broth. Delicious.

dumpling recipe needs to be back on the box please.

I know, I turned the box upside down looking for it. Its the only reason I buy bisquick !!

Put recipe back on box.I love Bisquick dumplings.grew up with mom and dad making this
Thanks Sarah

2 cups bisquIck and 2/3 cup of milk. How difficult is that to remember?

Lol. That's what I was thinking. Not only that but these comments are on the page with the recipe so they obviously found it.

The recipe is on the side of the box under BISCUITS & DUMPLINGS. The dumpling recipe is at the bottom of that section. It's always been there but easy to overlook.

Sugar Dumpling

I have not made this dumpling recipe for about 10-15 years. I am preparing & noticed the recipe was gone. So I immediately searched on my PC, and thankfully it was found. After so many years I had forgotten the actual recipe although it's a very simple one. I can't wait to taste those babies after so long. I'm sure that with all of the requests to add back on box, they will - sometime soon, or not. I see others have been requesting for years now. Wow.

I just got a new box, and the recipe for dumplings is in the side of the box, and the drop biscuits recipe is on the side. No problem at all. Only reason here is because when I cut those two recipes off of the box, I cut off the amount of milk. Wanted to make sure I remembered it correctly, which thank goodness, I did. Love Bisquick. QX

Sue Dempsey

I made chicken and dumplings, no recipe on my new box. I found it on here, wrote it down on a sticky note and posted inside my cupboard.

Just find the recipe either from a previous box or the internet & tape it to the bottom of the box. Or, you could even just write out the recipe & place it under the box. Just be sure to put the box back in the same place.

I like to mix in chives, parsley, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese, before adding the milk.
It makes the best tasting dumplings ever.
Jana - Arizona

Yep Please. put the dumpling recipe back on the box. I might forget the process of preparing it. This time I started it covered and checked the recipe on line and found you cover it in the last ten minutes.

If I am short on Bisquick can I add a little flour

I make my own bisquik! Always handy and costs a LOT less. easy Peasy, Pinterest it!

Been making my husband these dumplings filled with sharp cheddar in the middle and cooked in a few cans tomato soup, diluted with milk! His favorite for 22 years!

Inexpensive and comforting on a cold evening! Like having a grilled cheese in your soup!

Made the dumplings
That sank like concrete
For my chicken and Dumplings
What did I do wrong??

I have been making dumplings with Bisquick for over 20 years. This year I made them, and just like your post, they sank in the broth, never came back up to the top and were doughy. Yukkk. These past 2 times there was more broth in the pot, but I have done that before. In the past they have always floated and I would drizzle some broth over them as they cooked - floating on top of the broth. Why did they sink and come out heavy and doughy.
(Broth was boiling)

Bought a box of Bisquick special for the dumplings. Got home and found the recipe had been removed. Please put it back on the box. No other dumplings will do in my house!

Recipe not on my box either. but I remember. 2 c bisquick
2/3 c milk & mix up lightly til sticks together
Drop on soup light simmer 10 minutes unclovered
10 minutes covered / no noise allowed!

going to make a this recipe tonight and double it. looking forward to a no fuss chicken and dumplings that doesn't take all day.

The recipe is on the box on the side at the bottom where is find the nutrition facts. I think they put it back on the box because it wasn't there 3 years ago.

Got the dumplings..How much broth? I heard cream of chicken soup as well?

I use cream of chicken soup for my broth.

I use plenty of broth such as ham broth, small chunks of ham, potatoes, green beans, boiling and then add dumplings and reduce heat. Great meal.

I love to add it to sauerkraut that is how my mother made it. I add it to sauerkraut and kielbasa

recipe not on my box..thank heavens for the internet..I put a litle thyme in the batter..dumpllngs have long been a favorite

I have made dumplings from scratch when I was out of Bisquick but they weren't as good. My mother used Bisquick and I do too. You can't beat it for shortcake, pancakes, etc. I still use the Bisquick cookbook I bought when I got married in 1966. My kids brag about my homemade strawberry shortcake and pineapple upside down cake! I'm 75 now and still love to cook and Bisquick gives me homemade results the easy way!

I still have a couple of little Bisquick booklets from the early seventies, do not make the recipes anymore but I kept the booklets just in case.

Please put dumpling recipe back on the bisquick box. I found it more comforting knowing it was there. Thank you for your product and please listen to your bisquick readers. You know a new generation of users will buy your product. Think back, then ahead.

Found the recipe on my Bisquick box. Listed under biscuits or dumplings. Been making the biscuits and dumplings for years. They're the best. There's no substitute.
Homemade chicken soup with dumplings. it's what's for dinner.

I have an awesome recipe for crock pot chicken and dumplings, but it calls for canned biscuits, didn't really care for, so now have Bisquick, do I put in the crock pot or boil on stuff and then transfer. Why not add to liquid?? Help

No recipe on my box for dumplings. Please put it back on all boxes or print inside?!

My kids were always Picky Eaters, so I called the dumplings "clouds" and they ARE ! They gobbled them up and wanted to know when we could have them again!

I bought a box yesterday to take on a camping trip.. No recipe. I had to find it on here. Maybe I got an old box.

They are like light pillows of deliciousness. A family favorite !

Put the dumpling recipe back on the box side panel please!

Put the recipe back on the box. If you don't, your light bulb is a little dim. The only reason I buy Bisquick is to make the dumplings my Mother and everybody else did. This is a very simple thing to do to make so many people happy.

I usually make home made dumplings, but I'm not feeling good. So I am using Bisquick for my chicken and dumplings today. I make mine just like homemade chicken noodle soup, but instead of noodles I'm using dumplings.
They need to put the recipe back on the box.
From, Perrysburg, Ohio

I am 81 years old .
I am making my 8 qt pot full of rolled out chicken & Dumplins for my kids & grandkids this week. It's a fav for all still . . .they are grown up. I am using Bisquick. Needed the recipe again. Not on the box!

how many people have to ask before you put the receipe back on the box.. my daughter a newly wed asked me ..i said look at the box? my mistake.. who needs to make waffles?

Please put recipe for dumplings and chicken fingers back on the box.

The recipe is on the box, always has been. Just Look.

I have used Bisquick for over 40 years and many different recipes to include dumplings. The dumpling recipe was always on the side or on the back of the box. Now when I buy Bisquick sometimes the dumpling recipe is on the back or side however most of the time it is not. And the dumpling recipe is slightly different from the biscuit recipe the biscuit recipe calls for 1/4 cup more milk. I too wish the dumpling recipe was on every Bisquick box instead of certain ones so I am as the rest of you leaving a message in hopes Betty Crocker listens to all of us and put the dumpling recipe where it belongs! Thank you for such as wonderful product as Bisquick. it surely is wonderful tool to have!

chicken and dumplings are great comfort food any time of the year
so please replace the recipe on your Bisquick box

Dumpling recipe not on my box.that i brought at Walmart today. Glad to find this website. It is just the Hubby and I now, so i like to buy the rotisserie chicken you can get at Sam's club for $5. I try to make as many meals out of it as i can, usually 2-3 meals. In the summer i make chicken salad or curried chicken salad, or chicken nachos or quesadillas, and in the winter soups. Been a while since i made chicken and dumplings. Sent hubby to buy some bisquick and NO recipe.! enjoyed reading everyone post.

I need the recipe for Bisquick Dumpings

Dumplings are so popular. why would you remove the recipe from the box? PLEASE. put it back on the box.

I was shocked to not find the dumpling recipe on my Bisquick box. I almost panicked then I remember the internet and Google the recipe. Yum yum.
PLEASE put the dumplings recipe back on the side of the box. THANK YOU

Jesus Christ! Put the Recipe back on the box and fire the people that said to take it off!!

It always seems to be some idiot in marketing who makes these decisions! They need to listen to their ACTUAL customers.

Why in heavens name would you leave the recipe off the box for dumplings.

My mom used to put the dumplings over pork chops. She's gone now and I can't ask what else she added. Do you just brown pork chops and then add . . what liquid?? before placing the dumplings. Any help appreciated, Thanks. Diane USA

I follow the recipe to the letter but my dumplings are so soft they pretty much fall apart. What am I doing wrong?

Ok what is the Name if the Man who decided to take the DUMPLINGS off the BOX. Are you Crazy? My mother is oh boy MAD. And NO she don’t have internet. Old School for the sake of her being, please stop changing what isn’t broken PLEASE. That person should be fired. The best recipe on the box.

How do you know it was a man?

What measurements do i use if i decide to try rolling out my dumplings? It can't be the same as regular dumplings as they would be too sticky to roll out, right?

Please put the Dumpling recipe back on the box. Makes it a lot easier than having to go and turn on my computer, looking for the recipe.

Does anyone hear us. Put the recipe for dumplings BACK

I do not cover my dumplings for the last 10 minutes as recipe states. I tried this and my dumplings literally dissolved. So now I cook them uncovered and they are so nice and fluffy. I cook the dumplings and then gently add the cooked shredded chicken a little bit at a time, gently pulling dumplings apart to make a little peep hole to fold the chicken into the bottom of pan. Works great and we love them!!

I have been making bisquick dumplings for years & the new box does not have it any longer WHY.

Betty, I couldn’t believe that there was no recipe on the back of your Heartsmart Bisquick box for dumplings. I see I’m not the only one. Please put it back on!! I am 71 and have used your mix for years, but I don’t have it memorized. It is the best!

Yes I agree please put the dumpling recipe back on box, they are the best ever and I also seen now that they are not on boxs I buy.

I ONLY by Bisquick to make dumplings, if it isn’t on the box, guess I will buy an off brand.

People have you ever used your phone? to busy texting? Call the company, the more people calling the better. I for one cut out the whole back of the big box years ago and put it in my recipe notebook. Anyway call the companyh

Please put the dumpling recipe back on the box! I have been dropping the spoonfuls of dough on top of my chicken soup for years. Cook 10 minutes uncovered and then 10 minutes covered. I drop by spoonfuls right in the soup liquid. It does make for better thicker broth. It's my family's favorite soup.

I got a store brand (Aldi's) "bisquick". it's not on that box either!

Southern dumplings are not anything like traditional Bisquick dumplings. Rolled dumplings are more like noodles and are appropriately called "Slick Dumplings". Please don't mix the two recipes. They are 100% differently tasting foods.

Now at 77, I have never had chicken and dumplings that are cooked uncovered. For as long as I can remember, the chicken broth is brought to a boil, the dumplings added, covered and cooked for approx. 10 min. Light and fluffy.

I finally got a box without the recipes I count on. Blah! Please put the recipe for dumplings back on the box. Why did you "fix" something that was already just fine?

Great easy delicious dumplings.

I have made dumplings from the recipe on the box for 50 years, now they take it off! That is crazy. luckily I have a computer, but many other older people do not have one to look it up every time! Please put back on the box!

I have never used Bisquick. It sure would have been nice to have a recipe on the box. My mom used a German box brand when not making homemade. Next time I will grab that german box brand. Tried making hubby's kind he grew up with. But No Directions- No Buy!

add a pinch of sage to the dough!!

Just bought a new box of Bisquick and it had NO DUMPLING RECIPE! What idiot thought it would be a good idea to omit the dumplings recipe? Put the recipe back on every box. So simple.

Need the recipe back on the box.

Put dumplings recipe back on the box please and thank u!

Yes, please put dumpling recipe back on box.

Does anyone put rolled out dumplings in the fridge to be ready to drop in the broth for the next days' meal? (Don't have time to roll out beforehand).

I really wish you would return to printing your recipes on the boxes of Bisquick. I always depended on your recipe for chicken and dumplings and for velvet crumb cake. I cannot find the exact recipe for velvet crumb cake anywhere and it is one of my favorites. Please start printing the recipes on your boxes again.

Has no one noticed that the prep/cook times in the printed recipe don't add up? The recipe is fine, otherwise.

My mother used Bisquick to make her dumplings which came out light and fluffy. I used the same recipe on the box for years with the same success. Then I switched from my electric stove with burners to a cooktop stove, and they came out like rocks. What happened?? I bought a new box and tried them again, but no success. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've been making these bisquick dumpling for years. I also add an eqq to make them fluffier.

I've been making these for years, my mom too and through reading these comments it's the first time that I heard you need to let them sit for a few minutes to rise?

Here's a very simple recipe for homemade chick dumplings, a no fail.
Pot, half gallon water in it brought to boil. Add in Wylers chicken bullion granules, about 4 tablesoons. Drop in diced half onion, thinly sliced 2 carrots, cover and simmer on low 20 minutes. Take all meat off an already cooked or rotisserie chicken. Put aside. Freeze the chicken skeleton. Now, your dumplings you can get frozen by Kettle or Aunt Marys, eithet is fine. Grabv2 packs, and bring your broth to a rooling med high boil. Add dumplins 1 at a time. It will look like a lot of dumplings but thats fine. Now, here's the trick. add 1 can cream of celery soup and 1 can cream of chicken soup into the pot. Stir ever so often to prevent sticking. It will take aroynd 20 minutes on low for youe dumplins to be aldente and your broth nicely thicken. You're almost done now. While still on low add 1 half can evaporated milk or 1 whole smaller can, and cut up 1 stick of real butter, not unsalted. Stir. Add chicken in and dump a regular size can green peas in. Fold it all in. Tadte, and now you add salt if needed, 2 tsp sugar for sure, and a good shake of black pepper. Turn off burner. Set up for 5 min and serve. I also add fresh garlic to mine in the beginning. The whole process is only around 45 min and you can't beat it. You can feed 4 people on less than 15.00 tjis way.

I have been making these dumplings for about forty years and add celery, carrot, and dried onion flakes. I make a broth with the dried chicken broth cubes and water and now use a rotisserie chicken (pulled off bone) to make it simple. Along with most of the comments above, I will appreciate it if you put the recipe on the box, so I don't have to look it up each time. Thanks!

If you are making a . berry dumpling, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a tablespoon of sugar. and add me to the list of complainants regarding the foolish decision to remove this recipe from the box! Thanks to those who have posted their customizations!

Please put recipe back on box. I make dumplins pretty often and we love them. Also, make garlic drop biscuits to go with it. Red Lobster can't hold a candle

We get it. The recipe is not on the box. Appreciate the people posting helpful tips.

PLEASE PUT THE RECIPE BACK IN THE BOX. My family has used your brand since before I was born, and the other day I called up my 78 year old Dad to ask him for Grandmas recipe. he replied “It’s on the Bisquick box” . but it wasn’t, and I had to read him the whole box, because he could not believe it wasn’t on there. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT to both of us. Some things should always be there. i.e. your dumpling recipe.

I have seen enough. The next time I go into the grocery store I am taking a Sharpie and writing the recipe on the box. No more cut up Grands Biscuits in my stews.

Evidently Bisquick isn't listening!

LMAO. I can't believe folks on this website have been complaining about the missing dumpling recipe on the Bisquick box FOR MORE THAN SIX YEARS. Uhhhhh…….this IS NOT the Bisquick website! Wouldn't it be a tad more effective to address any issues with Bisquick on the freaking Bisquick website. Just sayin.

This happened 3years ago! Put the dumpling recipe back on the box please.

Put the Dumpling Recipe back on the box.

Hmmmm. Bought Bisquick yesterday to make chicken and dumplings for my granddaughter. No recipe on the box for the dumplings. So I just GOOGLED it. No problem. Can't wait to make it. Stop complaining about "NO RECIPE ON THE BOX FOR THE DUMPLINGS".

OMG. People have been complaining for at least 3 years and 11 days about the missing-from-the-box dumpling recipe, It seems the Bisquick people do not care what their customers want. Right? Disappointing.

I have used the box recipe for over 30 years. then no longer on the box. I have it memorized except wasn't sure how much milk. Put it back on the box.

First of all, if you all have been making these dumplings for as long as you claim you have, you should have the recipe memorized by now. So, stop expecting the makers of Bisquick to do all the work for you and start doing your own homework. Simply, print out 2 copies of this recipe. Put one in the cookbook you go to the most. Tape the 2nd copy on the inside of the cabinet door where you store your beloved Bisquick. Voila! You now have the recipe at your finger tips any time you need it. Grow up and stop bellyaching and be glad that all they did was drop the recipe from the box. How would you all act if they stopped making Bisquick, period! Oh, if you are so worried that the recipe won't be around for your children or grandchildren, you can fix that, too. Make them a cookbook with your family favorite recipes in it and make sure you include this dumpling recipe for them. Problem solved! Now you can all get back to baking and cooking with Bisquick. Enjoy!

please put the recipe back on the box. lost without it . so are the grandchildren. best dumplings ever.

Recipe Summary

  • 1 large egg, lightly whisked
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for surface and dusting
  • Yellow cornmeal, for dusting
  • Pierogi with Potato Filling and Brown Butter
  • Pierogi with Cabbage Filling and Clarified Butter
  • Pierogi with Blueberry Filling and Spiced Sour Cream
  • Pierogi with Italian Plum Filling and Spiced Sour Cream
  • Coarse salt

  • Coarse Salt

Make the dough: Whisk together egg and sour cream. Whisk in milk and water. Stir in flour, 1 cup at a time.

Turn out dough onto a floured surface. (Dough will be loose and sticky.) Using a bench scraper, turn and fold dough to knead, dusting with flour as needed, until elastic and no longer sticky, 8 to 10 minutes. (Dough will come together as you knead it. Be careful not to add too much flour, since it will toughen the dough.) Cover with an inverted bowl let rest for 1 hour.

Divide dough into 4 equal pieces. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a clean linen towel, and dust generouslywith cornmeal to prevent sticking.

Roll out 1 piece of dough on a lightly floured surface into a 1/8-inch-thick round (keep other pieces covered).

Cut out circles very close together, using a 3-inch cutter or glass (5 inches for the plum version). Cover with plasticwrap to prevent dough from drying. Repeat with remaining dough.

Fill pierogi: Place filling in center of each dough circle. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Holding 1 circle in your hand, fold dough over filling. Pinch edges, forming a well-sealed crescent.

Transfer to cornmeal-dusted towel, and loosely cover with plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining dough circles and filling. Working in batches, transfer pierogi to boiling water. They will sink to the bottom and then rise. Once they have risen, cook through, about 2 minutes more (or up to 4 minutes for plum pierogi, depending on ripeness). For savory pierogi, coat a platter with half the butter. Transfer pierogi to platter using a slotted spoon. Drizzle tops with remaining butter, and season with salt. For sweet pierogi, transfer to a platter using a slotted spoon, and dot with sour cream.

Golden Syrup Dumplings

Maggie Beer's Golden Syrup Dumplings are her mother's family recipe, and are such a simple dessert made with ingredients in everyone's pantry.

Step 1 : Sift self raising flour into a bowl and add a pinch of salt.

Step 2 : Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs, add the whisked egg and stir to combine.

Step 3 : Gently add the milk and mix till the dough just comes together and resembles a scone mix (do not over work the dough). Set aside.

Step 4 : Combine all sauce ingredients into a large fry pan. Bring to the boil to amalgamate before reducing heat to a gentle simmer.

Step 5 : Flour your hands and roll the dough into the size of a twenty cent piece. Place the balls onto a tray lined with baking paper.

Step 6 : Slip the balls off the baking paper all together into the syrup. Cover the fry pan with foil to form a tight seal and cover with the lid. Cook for about 10 minutes before turning over to cook for another 10 minutes on the other side.

Step 7 : Remove with a slotted spoon and serve with the remaining sauce and a jug of runny cream.

Pea and Ricotta Potstickers With Homemade Dumpling Wrappers

Making dumpling wrappers from scratch may seem daunting, but this method makes it highly achievable. While there are many types of dumpling skins, some of which are made with starches, my preferred variety to make at home requires just two humble ingredients—flour and water—and happens to be one of the easiest doughs to work with. This dough is incredibly malleable and adaptable. The near-boiling water is the magic ingredient—the heat basically cooks the proteins in the flour, preventing the gluten from forming too much, reducing elasticity. This creates a robust dough that is extremely easy to roll out. Even if you want to make it ahead or have to pop it in the fridge to rest for a few hours, it comes out soft enough to roll. Hot-water dumpling dough is best for pan-fried potstickers and steamed dumplings (they’re too thin to boil). There are also instructions for how to use store-bought wrappers, if you prefer. (Find all of my most valuable dumpling tips here!) This recipe is adapted from my book To Asia, With Love, where I have recipes for potstickers stuffed with all kinds of fillings. —Hetty McKinnon

Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe

My husband has been bugging me like crazy to make some delicious apple dumplings so today we were a team and got them done! They turned out awesome for a fall dessert or treat. The recipe is very basic and anyone can make them, even kids! I hope you enjoy and let us know if you make any adjustments.

This picture is missing butter, btw! We actually made two batches but I wrote out the recipe for just one. I also realized I grabbed the "butter flake" crescent dough but it made them more buttery and delicious!

Take the easy route and use an apple slicer!

When rolling the dough make sure you tuck in the edges so no apple is showing!
