You Can Download a Font Called ‘Times New Ramen,’ and Yes, It’s What You Think It Is

It started as a joke, but the font’s creator says society should get with the times

‘Times New Ramen is a very cool font, I really like it,” Kendrick Lamar has reportedly said.

If you feel so strongly about ramen that you’d like those noodles to write the story of your life, you now have that option.

Developed by Ryder Ripps, Times New Ramen is the printed version of what alphabet soup is to lovers of the alphabet. It’s also nearly impossible to read unless the font is enormous, so don’t expect to get any work done with it.

According to Ripps, it started out as a joke on Twitter, but its path to credibility is closer than you think. Here’s how his interview went with Fast Company:

“Obviously, Times New Ramen is a gag font, but can you see it being used in the real world? (Outside of ramen joints, that is)

“Gag font? That's what they said about the original Times New Roman font when it came out in 1931. Everyone was like, this is neither Roman nor New. I just think as a society we need to become more open to change. In the words of the great Steve Jobs, ‘Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.’ And in the words of Margaret Thatcher, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, If I die, I'm a legend. Oh my God, oh my God, if I die, I'm a legend.’”

Download Times New Ramen, if you’re so inclined.

Sheet pan chow mein

Here’s a really fun dinner I made recently, the sheet pan chow mein from Hetty McKinnon’s, new cookbook, which is a love letter to all the vibrant Chinese food she grew up eating plus many of her other Asian favorites. You — we, if I may be so presumptuous — love McKinnon’s vegetarian cooking because she’s so creative, as we saw in this chickpea and kale shakshuka, and yet it’s all so practically-minded, clearly having been vetted in the chaos of real life family dinners.

In Mandarin, “chǎo miàn” means “stir-fried noodles.” It’s always made in a wok, and it’s still the best and quickest from one, says McKinnon. But the sheet pan makes it easier in a different way, in that we can add ingredients and walk away, letting the oven give the noodles their signature crisp, while we… break up a fight over Legos, or pour a glass of wine. (The latter, please.) What sets chow mein apart from lo mein is this crisp, the mixture of crispy fried strand and soft noodles that are smothered in a robust and aromatic sauce. McKinnon encourages us to make chow mein with whatever leftover vegetables and/or seasonal produce she’s got, which gives us a lot of freedom. I can’t wait to see how you mix it up.

Sheet Pan Chow Mein

  • Servings: 4
  • Time: 40 minutes, with prep
  • Source:Hetty McKinnon's To Asia, With Love
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), finely sliced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and finely sliced diagonally
  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets, or bundle of broccolini, cut into 1- to 2-inch segments
  • Kosher salt
  • Olive oil or a neutral oil
  • A 250-gram or 8.8-ounce package dried thin egg noodles
  • 1 small can baby corn, drained
  • 6 ounces asparagus, sugar snaps, or snow peas, trimmed and cut into 1- to 2-inch segments
  • 1 medium shallot or 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, to finish
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
Soy seasoning

Meanwhile, make the noodles: Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil. Add the egg noodles, and cook according to the packet instructions, or al dente, about four to five minutes. Drain and cool under cold running water. Drain well again and pat dry with a clean tea towel.

Combine the soy seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.

Remove the baking sheet and push the vegetables to the side. Add the noodles, corn and asparagus. Drizzle the noodles with sesame oil, season with more salt and toss well to coat. Return the tray to the oven and bake for another 15 to 18 minutes, until the noodles are crispy on the top and bottom. We are looking for a combination of crispy and non-crispy noodles.

Remove the tray from the oven, drizzle over the soy seasoning and toss well. Scatter over the shallot and sesame seeds and serve.

Why Embroidery Fonts Matter

It’s hard for me to believe that I started my digitizing (punching) journey 37 years ago. When my first mentor taught me the rules of manually creating embroidery designs, his goal was always two-fold:

  1. Achieve the best visible results possible.
  2. The design must be machine-friendly to optimize production.

Concerning visual quality, he told me repeatedly during my training that the lettering within any design is just as, or even more, important than the actual logo . That statement is so true, you can have the most beautiful logo in the world, but if the text/font within the design looks sloppy, the entire design is ruined.

Back in those days, we had to punch every stitch within a design manually. I have to admit, doing lettering all day every day was tedious and boring. After you’ve digitized the letter 100,000 times, the excitement is gone.

Given my experience, let me be clear that all fonts available for embroidery these days are NOT created equal.

Understanding why some fonts look good and why others lack quality and appearance can contribute to a few factors. Let me explain…

this was my first game downloaded on itch, not disappointed.

Are there more than 3 endings for Ise, for example with only Minako? I feel like i'm trying everything, but I always get the same 3 endings with Ise. I've seen the previous comments about her endings, but I can't make sense of it.

Hello! There are 6 endings where she is involved in ) Here's a hint: You'll have to choose what you typically don't in the choices given to you!

Hmm okay :) I still feel like im trying everything tho, but I’ll give it another try

Hey! So, my problem is that I can't find some of the endings, some say there is an Ise ending? I can't find that one, plus any others I probably don't know about. How do I find them?

Yes there is! Sometimes, you gotta decide on something that you usually don't choose )

Ah, I see, that makes sense now.

Hello! Im bit lost for finding a few endings, specifically Ise ones, I've only got the 'good ending' with all 3 girls and 1 scene with Ise alone, are there any more scenes with her?

Hello! Yes there are multiple Ise endings! Just as I mentioned to the other player above asking about Ise, sometimes, you gotta decide on something that you usually don't choose )

Hi! Iɽ like to ask if there is a walkthrough for this game?

I think I put out a flowchart graph for our patrons several months back. I'm not sure, it's among the posts I did wayy before!

Sorry about typing out another comment after doing a rating. I think it's a good game, but why isn't it on newgrounds when the ramen prince is?

The android version doesn't seem to work for me.It freezes on the loading screen after you give your concent that its an adult game.

Hello! Will take a look at it :) Thanks for letting us know!

Hmm it seems to work for me. I checked the version available here. Would you mind letting us know what your phone model is and Android version? Maybe there's something about that.

Sorry for the late reply(I didn't get the notif until today). It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it's android 5.0.1

Oic! Right now the game is a little behind in the backend compared to The Ramen Prince and Runicca. It does work on my old test phone so this is kinda baffling haha!

can you make a game with the main person as a women

Show the menu bar on the upper right corner of the screen while playing the game, and press the ingame menu button beside it. That will show up the in-game menu with the save and load game controls. You can only save a game while the dialogue is displayed.

Did anyone do the sex scene.

Do you have any reference image to choose the skin color?

I got an idea, but you know, weɽ like to keep the skin color names friendly and delicious :)

Hi yes so I do have a question. Is there a way to only end up with summer? You don’t have to tell me how, just wondering.

Hello! Yes! In several different ways )

There are any version in spanish?

Hello! Unfortunately, there's no spanish language fan translation yet. If youɽ like to contribute that, just let us know :)

The songs used in the game were nice and I would love to know what they were

Yo, whenever I try to use the old art secret code oldieartxxx, it seems to work at first but I after I click moulinbrush as the art style it proceeds to say collab art style secret code is turned on so I have to use ukyu or the current art style instead of the moulinbrush one. Plz help

Helloo! That sounds like a bug I missed. We'll fix it in the next release! )

Love the game but as of right now I'm really loving the title screen song, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any chance someone knows what it is? Thank you.

hello sir . can get the old art style from the update of 0.9 ..bcoz after the update of 0.91 the art styles looks way cartoonish not to say bad its good but too overdone the old style was competitively good to the the other games for which i promote others to also download it as now . some are complaining about the new slart style pls change it as i love the game very much special the art this is a honest fan feedback. as u can see it

Hellooo! The old art is still accessible using the secret code oldieartxxx. I understand you're a fan of the said style, but unfortunately, it's no longer supported nor will be continued. :(

Aside from the standard art we're using that you see above, we're working with our current artist, Ukyu, to take the art in another direction.

The game was built with being able to support multiple art styles, so who knows, we might work with another artist later on who has a similar style to the original one!

But yeah, sorry about the bad news :(

Thank you for the reply sir. as u said yes I am a fan of the old art style and I would actually want that in future maybe the old style or similar to it is adapted which very good.the new art style I am not against of it but it looks bit too web based childish game we get but the old one was like anime style wow. can't the art stylist just change just the appearance to the one (appearance is what I actually meant the old character looks and body art where great).the new style is good but the appearance that attracts the user greatly is what I think is missing this game was like animelu beautiful. thx for the cheat . and sir how must I get the old style in game from android device.(thank u for the the reply again . #springinsummertime and #paperwaifustudio for the game)

The old art style is accessible the same way in the other versions of the game as the Android one :). I'll keep your art preference in mind! Our collaboration with other artists in the future may be limited to Omake scenarios.

Say, the software that you use for this visual novel is really not convenient.

The loading times are damn long, there is no possibility to roll back nor to skip already seen text, the menu is fastidious, musics are broken, I know this is an alpha version but all of these problems wouldnt even happen with Ren'Py for example.

Indeed, Ren'Py is that convenient that there is not a single loading time, everything is instant, if a reader wants to rewind in order to see something again, they can rewind by scrolling the middle mouse button up, if a reader wants to read the visual novel again and try different choices in order to discover how the story changes, they can skip what they have already seen by holding Ctrl down which skips everything already seen until they reach something new that they have not seen yet, the menu is accessible with a right click anywhere on the screen and it opens directly on the save screen which is the most often used feature of the menu, this is how convenience is made.

You probably know Ren'Py as this is the software that everyone uses to create visual novels and you probably wanted to try something else to not do the same as everyone, be original, I think I undestand that much.

I don't suggest you to do the same as everyone and be unoriginal, but if a software is used by everyone because it is convenient then there is nothing wrong to use this convenience to create something original, don't you think? -)

So after testing your visual novel and experiencing the utter disavantadges of the software that you use, my suggestion is to switch to Ren'Py in order to benefit its convenience both for you and your readers, what do you say? :-)

Thank you for your thoughts and feedback about your user experience, comparing it with Ren'py!

@Wait times - Sorry about that! ^^V The wait times are there for a purpose, or rather, by the limitations and bugs I had encountered and fixed up from way before. :) I can look at this sometime down the road and see if there's a way to speed things up!

I had looked at Ren'py before when I was about to start working on this game and I've no doubt, it's very good software for this sort of thing!

But it wasn't just about putting out visual novels quickly that I needed to consider there were other things. At the time I was creating the game, I wanted a mobile version of the game, but I didn't have enough experience in developing this before, just the foresight, so I didn't know what will and what won't work - the technical traps were there but I couldn't see them clearly. I didn't have much time to figure things out.

Ren'py didn't exactly work with mobile phones outright, while I *think* I know there's a way to get it on the phone, there were multiple technical barriers for me to overcome - on top of learning Python, so I couldn't really figure it out on the get-go before.

Ren'py, coming in as a complete package was like WordPress for website development, seemed pretty easy and a great thing to get into, unfortunately, digging into Ren'py's technical stuff confused me (while I've read it's easy to get into, I didn't know how to use Python), so I decided to learn how to make something similar to learn how this stuff works - that works on the web. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for me, I had to do some work that's closer to re-inventing the wheel!

Ren'py also doesn't have the animations I wanted on the get go. While this wasn't exactly the case for what we're using now, I still had to make this work myself. I *think* I know there's a way to get those animations working in Ren'py, but unfortunately, there are again, multiple technical barriers that really prevents me from moving forward with this idea.

It's not that I don't like Ren'py, in fact, I think it's an amazing piece of software and PyTom really did a great job at making advanced Visual Novel development available for almost everyone. I just had other things to consider, on top of not knowing Python, that had me looking for other solutions.

There were a ton of bugs encountered, fixed, workarounds, and compromises to be made, and in the end, I was able to make it work :) it's not perfect, and I'm not a genius programmer myself. There are other advantages/disadvantages that I've come across, but at least this gives you an insight to what I went through. Given if I were a Python programmer, I would've picked up Ren'py without much hesitation!

I'll also give some thoughts on the Ren'py conveniences you mentioned. There are some things I may not be able to do like reverse playback, and stuff that aren't possible because of how I designed our VN engine.

Choosing the Right Font

This is what it’s all about right? Creating your custom book so it looks amazing. And making sure every line of text is a pleasure to read. Without being obvious.

Putting all those expectations into perspective, how do we ever decide on a font? When there are literally thousands to choose from, I submit that the right answer is to just keep it simple. Why use a font that looks like Baskerville when you can just use Baskerville?

The most important of your font’s many jobs is to go unnoticed. Using a common font, one you can reasonably assume your readers are familiar with means they’ll likely never think about your choice. You avoid any risk of putting off a reader with an uncommon or inappropriate font.

Yes, a font can be inappropriate. Look at this example:

Here we have three common print fonts with distinct uses. Baskerville is great for long-form novels. Then we have Interface a great web font that is also used for magazines and textbook printing. And last we have Courier, a classic ‘typewriter’ font, that you wouldn’t expect to see in a book but is great for newspapers. Three printable fonts, each with appropriate uses.

Each of these three has a specific purpose in mind, by design and historical use. In context, the right font goes unnoticed. But could you imagine reading Lord of the Rings in Courier? I doubt anyone would get past the first chapter.

From there, make sure you are in the Index template (this should be the default upon opening).

General Testing Instructions:

  1. Using the List View, select the parent Query Block and then remove this entire block. This will allow us to start fresh! Here’s a GIF that shows how to do this.
  2. From there, where the Query Block used to be, add in a Columns Block and set up 2 columns with 50/50 spacing.
  3. In the first column, add a Heading Block with the name of one of the Categories of posts. If you used the demo content, this will be either “Hikes” or “Travel”.
  4. Add a Query Block just below the Heading Block. During the setup, select whichever option you want from the various sizing options.
  5. Once inserted, open the Block Settings and under “Settings” turn off the “Inherit query from URL URL A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s URL ”.
  6. From there, you should see options to customize what posts this Query Block includes. Under “Filters”, please select one of the categories to display. If you used the demo content, this will be either “Hikes” or “Travel”.
  7. After the Query Block is showing the posts from just one category, proceed to customize the Query Block as you’d like! For example, you can add in additional blocks like Post Author and customize it using the Block Settings option. If you get stuck here, please jump down to the “Customization Instructions/Ideas” for help.
  8. Follow the same process with the second column and customize the additional Query Block. Make sure to select the second category of posts to display so you see new posts there!
  9. View your site and see if what you created matches the Site Editor view.

If you’re looking for more ways to customize the experience, try changing the width of the columns, adding in additional relevant blocks, changing colors, and more.

Customization Instructions/Ideas:

Because this is a more advanced block, here are some additional instructions to help clarify how customization of this block works in case you’re getting stuck. To start, keep in mind that part of the beauty of the Query Block system is that any change you make to one of the posts/pages being queried will be made to the entire set being displayed. This might be confusing at first but it allows for consistency across each post. With that in mind, here are some additional ways to customize your Query Block:

Flashes and Floaters in Your Eyes: When to See the Doctor

Do you ever see something drifting across the sky and discover that it’s actually drifting across your eye?

Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit academic medical center. Advertising on our site helps support our mission. We do not endorse non-Cleveland Clinic products or services. Policy

That would be a “floater.” Floaters are bits of debris in the interior of your eye that appear when you look at something white or very bright. “People describe them as cobwebs, spider webs, bubbles or even ‘tadpoles’,” says ophthalmologist Rishi Singh, MD.

Dr. Singh sees patients with floaters and “flashes” every day. Flashes often accompany floaters and look like a camera flash going off when you close your eyes or wake up in the middle of the night.

When to see an ophthalmologist

Prompt appointments are especially important if you see many floaters — or if floaters are accompanied by flashes.

If you’ve had floaters for 40 years, you don’t have to see your ophthalmologist. But if you have ‘recent-onset’ floaters — if they weren’t there yesterday or last week — see an ophthalmologist that day or the next.

Flashes are more ominous than floaters, notes Dr. Singh, because they signal an irritation of the retina from tugging, tearing, inflammation or infection.

“When the retina is stimulated, the brain sees it as light because it only has photoreceptors,” he explains.

A mild tug can progress to a retinal tear, which can progress to retinal detachment — a medical emergency. Torn or detached retinas must be promptly repaired by laser surgery or another procedure to preserve vision.

Despite the fast action required, there is no need to panic, says Dr. Singh. Flashes and floaters are usually symptoms of a problem that turns out to be minor.

Causes for flashes and floaters

Flashes and floaters can be caused by:

  • Detachment of the jelly-like “vitreous” from the retina. Detachment of the innermost light-sensitive layer of the eye is the most common cause of floaters and flashes. Posterior vitreous detachment occurs naturally as we get older, typically around ages 55 to 60. When it occurs in one eye, it usually follows in the other. or detachment. This is often a result of vitreous detachment, near-sightedness (myopia) or any kind of trauma or eye surgery
  • Hemorrhage, or blood leakage, from a tiny vessel in the retina. Hemorrhages can occur when a strong pull on the retina tears a blood vessel or when abnormal blood vessels develop in the eye in conditions such as diabetes. Small hemorrhages may disappear on their own, but larger hemorrhages that persist may require surgery.
  • Infection and inflammation. Infection, such as fungal infections, and inflammation, such as uveitis (involving the middle lining of the eye) can cause flashers and floaters.
  • Tumors of the eye. While rare, these must be ruled out, says Dr. Singh, an expert on ocular tumors.

How to take care of your eyes

Whether or not you have flashers or floaters, you can help preserve your eyes. Experts say:

  • Eat a balanced diet to be sure you are getting the nutrients your body needs to keep your eyes healthy.
  • Quit smoking (a huge risk factor for macular degeneration, a common cause of blindness in the elderly).
  • Wear sunglasses when in bright light for extended time to protect against UV light exposure.

Burmese Chickpea Tofu recipe

Looking for a soy free tofu? This vegan Burmese Chickpea Tofu (also called shan tofu) is an easy homemade tofu recipe to make which is a healthy and delicious source of protein.

While you're here, can I suggest you snag a free copy of my Ultimate Vegan Toolkit? It's loaded with all my favorite vegan recipes, cheat sheets, pantry guides, and more.

As a known tofu hating vegetarian you might be scratching your head wondering why I'm sharing a tofu recipe with you today.

I even wrote an entire vegan cookbook without using tofu one. single. time.

Well, you see, this Burmese Chickpea Tofu recipe I'm about to share isn't really tofu.

Tofu is made from bean curd, however, Burmese tofu is made from beautiful nutty chickpea flour. Also called chickpea tofu or shan tofu, it is more similar to polenta than tofu, as I'll explain.

As a lover of chickpeas and chickpea flour I couldn't wait to give chickpea tofu a try after reading about it on Sarah Brinson's wonderful blog.

However, while Sarah's recipe is totally doable, I'm too impatient to leave the chickpea flour soaking for 12 hours and wait another 8 hours before eating it.

So I came across another recipe for Burmese tofu, which didn't require soaking and a long wait. I halved it and set about giving it a go.

If you've made polenta before, then the process is not too dissimilar.

Chickpea flour is whisked together with water and salt and added to a saucepan of boiling water and whisked until thick and glossy. Then it is poured into a pan to set.

The tofu sets in about an hour and is soft and pillowy, with that slightly nutty chickpea flavour that I love.

The wonderful thing about this chickpea tofu recipe, apart from the fact that it's a wonderful soy free alternative to tofu, is that it is also budget friendly too.

Chickpea flour is relatively cheap especially if you are able to source it from an Indian grocer. (Or you can grab this one on Amazon!)

It is also extremely versatile too. Add it to salads, stir fries, soups. This soba mis soup is a great way to use chickpea tofu!

Anywhere you'd normally use tofu, you can use chickpea tofu instead.

I'm a little addicted to it at the moment, I've made 3 batches in the last 4 days, and have been having fun experimenting with it in the kitchen.

So tell me, have you ever tried chickpea tofu?
